Preparation January - June 2007 : HOLOHOLO FRANCE
In January 2007 our Kumu Gordean Bailey and Halau Wehiwehi O Leilehua received an official invitation to be part of a cultural program in France, the 34th Festival of Gannat.
The first time Hawai'i would be represented.
About 400 dancers are invited from all over the world to share their cultures and educate visitors.

“As always we will do our best to represent our culture, our kupuna and our love for our home” says Kumu Gordean

Since January the Halau was busy with planning, fund raising and practicing and our excitment is growing every day.

We like to thank everybody who participated and helped with our fund raisers and thank you to some generous sponsors.
Mahalo nui loa for your hard work and love.

We are almost ready for this exciting adventure and please join us on our trip and enjoy the photos we will post on this home page during our journey.

Chateau July 5 - July 12 : Dear friends,
This is the first time we have internet connection. Unfortunately, downloading photos is a problem at the internet cafe. We will try again soon. For everybody leaving to France, please change USD into EUROS. You can not change 100 bills here. We are doing fine and had our first performance in the castle. Mo is still out of luggage, our lauhala mats arrived. Today is Tuesday by the way.

Today is Wednesday and we finally got pictures on the web. I am not sure when we will have the next chance; just check every day.
The pictures are until July 10th (castle, sightseeing, lei making, performance, fun)
Everybody is doing great. It is very cold, brrrrr, and rainy.
Mo does still not have her luggage, hopefully tomorrow when we pick up Konstance and Theresa. We changed some money yesterday and will try tomorrow at Lyon Airport. The banks do not change, only post offices if you have bills smaller than 100. Can anybody call John, Aunty wants to warn everybody traveling to France (Maui News; Honolulu Advertiser). John has connections to the Newspapers.
Tomorrow we will go to Romans and have a Parade on Friday and a short evening performance.
Everybody is sending their love to family and friends and a big MAHALO for your supports. Margit

Romans July 12 - July 15, 2007 : On July 12th we left our beloved castle and our hosts Marie and Arnauld.
In Romans we stayed with 7 families and we made new friends. We had several events from Parades, street performances to evening performances with an audience of 2000 people.
To see other cultures and dancers is a treasure and brings the world together. Enjoy the show. Love from all of us. Margit

Gannat Festival July 17 on : The festival in Gannat is an emazing experience for us. We are staying in a school; bunk beds and group showers. On the same floor is the group of Brazil and we love them. The schedule is very tight, lots of ironing, practice, driving to performance places, workshops. The nights are too short. We have lots of stories to tell when we are back home.
We miss everybody and are looking forward to be back on Maui. Margit
